The Black Stallion Literacy Project

We would like to share with you the progress that we are making toward the lofty goal of bringing the Black Stallion Literacy Project to the great state of Arkansas.

Larry Barmblett has reserved Barton Coliseum and we hope that he will follow up with the exact date and a copy of the flier that he will be sending to each school in the Little Rock area this week.

The BSLP encourages children to love reading by introducing them to something that they can touch, feel and get excited about, horses.  They provide the children with a hard back book, The Black Stallion, provide the schools with a curriculum that fits into the framework for Arkansas, and as the final reward, they will bring the show, The Arabian Nights to Little Rock!  What a great experience for these lucky 5000 children!

The program goes through the schools, so we are sending fliers to the schools and can approach this in several ways including getting 4th grade teachers excited, principals enthusiastic or getting superintendents to give a nod.  This, we are told, qualifies for Title 1 funds, so our mission is to ask schools to adopt the program, improving children's reading skills, and at the same time encouraging them to love reading and to go on to succeed in life.  What a great idea!  Let's put Arkansas on the map for outstanding students with ambition!

Please call for any additional information.  We are going into our local schools and sharing information with them.  We have available brochures and videos of the program and are happy to share.

We will have a booth at the Egyptian Arabian Fair in Texas Sept. 17th - 19th and will look forward to seeing you there.

BUSCOPAN FOR COLIC
Recently, a new product has been approved in the U.S. for the treatment of colic. Boehringer Ingelhiem has received approval to manufacture the drug Buscopan® for distribution in the U.S. It is labeled for the treatment of spasmodic colic, flatulent colic, and simple impactions. This drug will be available through your veterinarian, and can be used to help suppress gut spasms and alleviate abdominal pain that is associated with colic episodes. Buscopan® has been approved for use in other countries for several years. Research has shown that Buscopan® can provide fast relief for symptoms associated with many types of colic. This drug also acts without masking important vital signs, allowing a veterinarian to make quicker prognostic decisions for the affected animal.
