Dear
Guests, and Buyers:
Year
three of the Razorback Roundup features 19 horses, and a
breeding to an exceptionally nice Quarter Horse
stallion. The Horse and Livestock Merchandising class
has 14 students planning and running the auction. The
Equine Behavior and Training class has 17 additional
students training the horses. Add in 7 student-teaching
assistants and 22 Equine Program Volunteers and you will
get at least 60 people involved in bringing you this
event!
As
Director of the D. E. King Equine Program, it is my
responsibility to oversee the sale. So, in the
Merchandising class we have discussed how important it
is for any business to operate with integrity, to find a
niche, and to have a mission. Here is our mission.
1.)
This sale will be conducted with absolute honesty
(complete disclosure of all negative facts known). No
rolling the bid from the auction block. No surprises
when you get your new horse home!
2.)
Our primary goal is to place each individual
horse in the best home we can. Price is of secondary
importance.
I
invite and encourage you to ask me questions about
suitability of a horse for your needs. If in my opinion,
it is not a good "fit", I will say so. I will
also include a personal letter in the front of each
horses' training notebook (on display for you to study)
pointing out any problems with the horse. Read it before
bidding!
To
offer students a broad range of experience and
information, the D. E. King Equine Program does not
focus on any one breed or discipline. This philosophy is
obvious at our auction. We are offering 5 different
breeds that could easily go on to perform in at least 10
different disciplines.
Please
support the efforts of my students and staff. Come to
the sale to buy, or just to watch. Your participation
encourages these young people to put forth their best
effort, and to learn by "doing". They are
learning to work hard and actively participate in a
business venture with high ethical standards. Isn't that
what most employers are looking for?
See
you at the sale,
Nancy
