translation of Elias Khoury's The Kingdom of Strangers.

 

John Getman (grad., 1998). Critics' Choice, 1995, listed his translation

of Baltasar Porcel's Catalan novel Horses into the Night as one of the

eight best translations of the year,

 

John Getman. Publishers' Weekly listed the same translation as one of the

twenty-five best books of fiction published in America in 1995.

Arabic literature ($7,500 for translator, $7,500 for orignial author:

international competition judged by nationally- recognized out-of-state

literary translators) for her translation of Khoury's The Kingdom of

John Getman won first prize ($1,000) in the Catholic University

Catalan-English Poetry Contest (international competition) for his
