Ashley McHugh has received the Morton Marr Poetry Prize for her poem "Into These Knots." The prize includes publication in the Southwest Review and a check for $1,000.

Also this week, two of Ashley's poems — "Wedding Anniversaries" and "Church of the Annunziata, 1760" — were accepted for publication in a future issue of the Pebble Lake Review.

Williamson wins Perigree Poetry Prize

Corrie Williamson, a first-year student in the program, has won the Perigree Poetry Contest for her poem "The Seed Jar." The prize includes a $300 award and publication in the next issue.

Honum awarded Ruth Lilly Fellowship

Fourth-year student Chloe Honum has been awarded a 2009 Ruth Lilly Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation. Honum was one of five poets selected to receive the award, which comes with a prize of $15,000 and publication in Poetry Magazine. Honum's work will be featured in the November issue.

Meaghan Mulholland recently received the Coughlin-Lawrence Fiction Fellowship to the Solstice Summer Writers' Conference at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill MA. The fellowship covers full room and board at the conference. Mullholland is a third-year student in the MFA program.

Steve Elliott is a pretty famous guy. Most know him as the best man at Geoff and Padma's wedding. Others know him as a hard-luck poker player. NYRB Reviews Brock's Pinocchio

The current issue of The New York Review of Books contains a nice review, by Tim Parks, of Geoff Brock's recent translation of Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio:

[Collodi's] achievement here was to tap into the zany spirit of Tuscan humor to deliver a Pinocchio who swings alarmingly between lies and candor, generous sentiment and cruel mockery, good intentions and zero staying power. Geoffrey Brock's accomplishment in his excellent new translation is to get that spirit across in English.
