XU, HUA
(B.A., Xuzhou Normal University, 1982; M.A., University of Texas at Austin, 1986), joined the University of Arkansas in 1992 and is currently Instructor of Chinese. She organized many special seminars on Chinese calligraphy, Tibet of China, Chinese cooking, the laws in China, etc. She received two grants; one is from the Teaching Academy and the other from the Fulbright College. She is interested in comparative linguistics between English and Chinese and second language teaching methodology. She developed and taught two new classes (Chinese 3033, Conversation and Chinese 3983, Chinese Culture). Since 1992, five of her students have received Chinese Language Scholarships through National competitions to study in Mainland China and Taiwan. She teaches a special class on Chinese culture at the Jones Family Center each year and she is also involved in the Asian Studies program in the Fulbright Institute of International Relations.
