Overview
of the Topic
In the overview, it would be appropriate to begin with a motivational image that relates well to the topic and then to coincide this image with a fun activity. For example, with this image, you might have students to brainstorm and list the trash components that make up the figure to the left. Then, you would have them make a list of the items in their own trash cans or recycling bins at the present time and then draw a picture incorporating the various items that they list. Have students explain their drawings in class.
After they complete such an activity, it would then be appropriate to present an overview of each segment of the module you develop. Use this as an opportunity to present the information in advance organizer format whereby you discuss very briefly the topic in question, or where you toss out questions that relate to the individual topics. Give them enough information so that they have to think about it and about their experiences or knowledge related to it. You could also present the different titles, print the information out, and then have them write down what they think it will be about!
