The entry of the Usonian House maintains the idea of a social filter only minimally. Whereas previously, a parlor may have been attached to an entry hall, the Usonian House allows visitors immediate access into the family space of the living area

The kitchen - or work area - of the home is considered to be the "command post" of domestic life and the singular domain of the feminine presence in the household.

The majority of the floor area of the Usonian House is dedicated to a conjoined living and dining space. Anchored by a central hearth and table, this common area of the house displays a markedly public character

Unlike today's homes, which tend to privilege the privacy of the master bedroom by placing it on the upper floor, the Usonian House placed the master bedroom on the lower floor and immediately visually accessible to visitors.
