The first constitution to govern France was written in 1791. Fourteen constitutions later, France is now governed by a constitution in a system that resembles the United States' judicial system. The constitution that governs the French is called the Gaullist Constitution of 1958. It was created in a referendum of September 28, 1958. The most important aspects of this constitutuon are:
