Module Overview and objectives

This modules concerns the fashion in France. Students are provided a variety of excercices that tap into fous skills of listenning, speaking, reading and writing. this modules also reflects the national standards of communication, culture, connections and comparaisons. The topiv covered include:

The objectivesof each segment are as follow:

Le vocabulaire de la mode:

A vocab'gloss text giving defintions for the close related words to the topic.

Qui est-ce?:

Students will demontrate their knowledge of the people involved by matching the correct definition or picture with the definition

Des couturiers célèbres:

The students are provided with a list of "couturiers". Each "couturier" in the list has a page attched under his/her name. This excercice aims at checking the students' reading comprhension skills. Once they have read the couturiers' page, they are asked to pick two ( the ones they like better) and explain their choice. They have a few questions, which do not require much vocabulary. They are asked to give their personal opinion and the essay questions

La haute-couture:

Students will be shown pictures of a défilé. They will have questions for group discussion in class. They will have a third question (comparison haute-couture and prêt à porter), which will be answer in the target language and will be turn in as a written assignment.

Le prêt à porter:

Once again, students are shown a défilé. They have to pretend they are fashion designers themselves and describe the collection with a lot of adjectives.

Magasins:

This page is composed with a description of a department store that distributes the nice brands. Students will show their ability to understand the text. Then, they have to work in pair and as this is oral excercice they will exposed their view in class and the grade will be as a lab test. They are given a feed back to help them move on if they are stuck in the conversation as the goal is to have them talk.

Un défilé de mode:

The défilé is described to the students.Then they are asked multiple choice questions. This is reading comprhension excercice.

Interview:

Two interviews are availables to the students. Here, we want to test their listenning comprehension skills.

Kissin'cousins:

A list a website is presented to the students. They have to explore those websites. A picture of each website displayed on the page and they have to match the picture with the couturier's name. This is to test the students ability to gather information about a couturier and to be able to restitute their knowledge.

Bizarre:

The students are given an exemple of "mode qui tourne en rond". They will have to come up with an example of their own taken from the past fashion. Then they will have to imagine what fashion wll be in a few years. This is to test their creativity and imagination.
