MODULE
OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES
This module concerns teen
employment in the city of Puebla, Mexico. Students are provided a variety of
exercises that tap into the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and
writing. This module also reflects the national standards of communication,
culture, connections, comparisons, and communities. The topics covered include:

¿Cuánto
sabes?
Students will be attracted to the unit theme and express positive attitude toward
completing the activities.
Vocabularo
útil:
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the key vocabulary concepts by using them in the activities that follow.
¿Qué
hacen los jóvenes?
Students will be further
attracted to the topic and will complete the activities.
¿Qué hacen ustedes?
Students will demonstrate
their understanding of the type of jobs typically held by young people in Mexico
by comparing these jobs with those held by students in the U.S.
¡Entrevistas!
Students will demonstrate
their knowledge of vocabulary, spending habits, the social security system,
and a job description by writing the answers to the questions and discussing
them in class.
"Vamos a
conocernos"
Students will demonstrate their comprehension of the reading passage by correctly responding, in writing, to the questions. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the life styles of the young people involved by participating in in-class discussions relative to the material.
Cuentito de adivinación
Students will demonstrate their understanding of the jobs of Mexico and of Mexican culture, as well as their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar by writing and presenting a story in Spanish.

Students will demonstrate
their understanding of Mexican culture (Mexican employment) and global communities
by answering the questions and by participating in an in-class discussion based
on the statistics given.
Trabajo con música
Students will demonstrate
their understanding of general vocabulary by identifying and writing key vocabulary
words from the song.

Students will demonstrate
their understanding of the unit and its vocabulary by preparing and presenting
a role-play activity based on teen employment in Mexico. Students will demonstrate
their understanding of the unit and its vocabulary by preparing and presenting
a commercial advertisement for a job for which a teen might apply.
