Evaluation

1.        There are several ways to evaluate this unit:

2. One of my goals for this unit, is to see and understand why the zócalo is important to the Mexicans. One way to check this is the following activity. Have the students draw ( or make up in advance) a six square table (2x3). On top write US and Mexico. On the left side write Buildings, Activities, and People. In each block have them list what each country has in relation to the Town square or Zócalo. After completing the chart have the student write a short essay or paragraph telling how the two are similar/different and why. Here is an example of a chart students could design.

  United States Mexico

Buildings

Activities

People

3. Have student write why s/he thinks the Zócalo is important to the Mexican people based on the information covered in the unit. Be sure that the student includes information about the political and social aspects, as well as why the students' interviewed gave importance to it.
