Père
Noël ou St. Nicolas?
French children
are especially lucky because they have two days to receive presents! Not
only do they have Christmas, but they have the "Fête de St.
Nicolas" too!
Qui est
St. Nicolas?
 |
St. Nicolas is a saint
that lived in the 4th century. He was known for his generosity and
his miracles. Now St. Nicolas is busy every December 6th when he
brings gifts to good boys and girls. St. Nicolas is especially popular
in the east of France and Germany where he is even more popular
than Père Noël!
Unfortunately, St.
Nicolas has a mean counterpart: Père Fouettard

Qui est
Père Fouettard?

Know
one really knows what Père Fouettard looks like, and no one
wants to know!
Père
Fouettard is a mean man that brings bad gifts to children who were
not good the past year.
So
you'd better be good for goodness sake!
