Benton County Historical Society 

    The Benton County Historical Society’s leadership for its 50th anniversary year was installed Dec. 7 at the festively decorated Peel Mansion in Bentonville. 

    Outgoing president Win Logue introduced the Honorable John R. Scott, who inducted the 2004-2005 officers: Don Warden, president; Leah Whitehead, recording secretary; Becky Christenson and Helen Hawkins, board members; Win Logue, treasurer; Jorgia Burge, vice president; Mary Jane Fischer, administrative secretary; Fred Coffee and Rose Ann Hofer, board members; and Pioneer co-editors Debbie De Shields and Nancy Feroe. 

    During the traditional Show and Tell, she gave a humorous presentation on the background of a ceramic mystery item with a hole in the top. The item turned out to be a hatpin holder designed to resemble a phone booth. 

    As Dec. 7 is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, Mike Christenson displayed his copy of the Chicago Sun headline announcing the catastrophic attack. The 1941 price was 2 cents. The group also honored four veterans of the Second World War who were present: Harold H. Hawkins, Vaun Schell, Mary P. Marquess and John C. Grammer. 

    After the formal business meeting, the group enjoyed reminiscences over a festive table laden with holiday goodies.
