Prospective doctoral student must file an application or a request for a change of program for the first semester of graduate work beyond the master's degree. No requirements for the doctoral degree can be fulfilled until the student has been admitted to the doctoral program.
The Doctoral Program Advisory Committee form, consisting of a major adviser and at least two other members of the graduate faculty, should be submitted (in duplicate) to the Graduate School immediately after or at the time of the submission of the Declaration of Intent.
When the student has passed candidacy, the Graduate School must be notified in writing from the major adviser or department head.
Each doctoral candidate must register for a minimum of 18 hours of doctoral dissertation. After passing candidacy examinations, doctoral students are required to be enrolled in a minimum of one hour of graded graduate course work or dissertation credit each semester until the student has graduated.
The Doctoral Dissertation Committee form, consisting of a dissertation director and at least two other members of the graduate faculty, should be submitted (in duplicate) to the Graduate School at least ONE YEAR before the defense of the dissertation.
The Doctoral Dissertation Title form, consisting of the title of the dissertation and approval by the dissertation director, should be submitted (in duplicate) to the Graduate School at least ONE YEAR before the defense of the dissertation.
Three copies of the dissertation should be submitted to the dissertation committee at least three (3) weeks prior to the conferral of the final oral defense. You must follow the "Guide for Preparing Theses and Dissertations" that is available at our web site grad.uark.edu/forms/degreeforms.php.
Announcement of a doctoral candidate's dissertation defense must be submitted to the Graduate School at least TWO WEEKS prior to the date of the defense.
The following forms should be submitted ONLY with the final copies of a dissertation: Library Transmittal Form, Intellectual Property Disclosure, Verification of Research Compliance, Dissertation Publishing Agreement Forms, and the Survey of Earned Doctorates. These forms are available at grad.uark.edu/forms.
When the dissertation is approved by the committee, one unbound copy, with the appropriate forms no later than TWO WEEKS before the degree is to be conferred (August 5 , 2011, for the August 2011 diploma; December 2, 2011, for the December 2011 diploma; and April 27, 2012, for the May 2012 diploma).
A student cannot be cleared for graduation until an application for the degree has been filed with the Registrar's Office and the appropriate graduation fee has been paid.
The degree application is now available in the Student Center of ISIS and should be submitted in the semester in which the student expects to receive the degree. For step by step instructions, please visit http://registrar.uark.edu/968.php.

*To be included in the Fall 2012 All-University Commencement Program, you should apply by October 1, 2012. To be included in the Spring 2013 All-University Commencement Program, you should apply by March 1, 2013.
