ACADEMIC YEAR, 2013-2014

MASTER'S PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Master's Advisory Committee form, consisting of a major adviser and at least two other members of the graduate faculty, should be submitted (in duplicate) to the Graduate School immediately following or at the time of admission to the program of study.

MASTER’S THESIS COMMITTEE

The Master’s Thesis Committee form, consisting of a thesis director and at least two other members of the graduate faculty, should be submitted (in duplicate) to the Graduate School as soon as the committee has been selected but no later than three months prior to the date of the comprehensive examination.

MASTER'S THESIS TITLE

The Master's Thesis Title form, consisting of the title of the thesis and approved by the thesis director, should be submitted (in duplicate) to the Graduate School as soon as the thesis topic has been established but no later than three months prior to the date of the comprehensive examination.

THESIS REGISTRATION

Those presenting a master's thesis as a part of the requirements for the master's degree must register for a minimum of six semester hours of master's thesis. Registration beyond six hours carries no degree credit. Consult your thesis director concerning registration for thesis. NOTE: The mark of "R" is the only acceptable mark reported when a thesis is in progress. A grade or mark may be assigned to the thesis when it has been accepted by the committee. Any grade assigned by the committee for thesis is to be recorded on the Record of Progress for the Master's Degree.

PRELIMINARY COPIES

The thesis, after its acceptance by the thesis director, should be submitted for approval to each thesis committee member. The committee must receive the thesis at least three (3) weeks before the final oral defense. You must obtain and follow the "Guide for Preparing Theses and Dissertations" that is available at our web site grad.uark.edu/forms/degreeforms.php.

THESIS FORMS

The following forms should be submitted ONLY with the final copies of a thesis: Thesis Submission Form and Intellectual Disclosure Form. These forms are available at grad.uark.edu/forms

FINAL COPIES

All completed forms and documentation must be submitted together to the Graduate School after the thesis defense and final approval by the thesis committee.   Submission must occur to the Graduate School no later than TWO WEEKS before the degree is to be conferred (July 19, 2013 for the August 2013 diploma; December 6, 2013, for the December 2013 diploma; and April 18, 2014, for the May 2014 diploma).   More information about the submission process can be found in the Guide to Theses and Dissertations at http://grad.uark.edu/dean/commencement/index.php.

MASTER'S EXAMINATION

The master's comprehensive examination should be scheduled at least ONE (1) WEEK BEFORE GRADUATION (July 26, 2013 for the August 2013 diploma; December 13, 2013 for the December 2013 diploma; and May 2, 2014 for the May 2014 diploma).

APPLICATION FOR THE DEGREE

A student cannot be cleared for graduation until an application for the degree has been filed with the Registrar's Office and the appropriate graduation fee has been paid.

The degree application is now available in the Student Center of ISIS and should be submitted in the semester in which the student expects to receive the degree. For step by step instructions, please visit http://registrar.uark.edu/968.php.

You must apply for the degree with the Registrar as early in the semester as possible, but no later than:

  • July 1 , 2013 for an August 2013 diploma;
  • October 1, 2013* for a December 2013 diploma;
  • March 1 , 2014* for a May 2014 diploma.

*To be included in the Fall 2013 All-University Commencement Program, you should apply by October 1, 2013. To be included in the Spring 2014 All-University Commencement Program, you should apply by March 1, 2014.
