  1. Minutes for the March 17th, 2011, Graduate Council meeting will stand approved if no corrections are received.  (Please review the minutes on the Graduate School web page before the meeting:  http://www.uark.edu/grad).
  2. Announcements
  3. Reports from the Academic Appeals Subcommittee, the Teaching Assistant Effectiveness Advisory Board, and the Subcommittee on the Annual Graduate Student Academic Review.
  4. Old Business:  None
  5. New Business:  Program Change Proposals from the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences
    1. Proposal to modify the MS degree in Biology (BIOLMS)  by adding this requirement: “Any student who receives a grade of D or F in any graduate-level course will be subject to dismissal following review by the Graduate Studies Committee” (Attachment A).
    2. Proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Biology (BIOLPH) in the ways stated in Section V of Attachment B
    3. Proposal to modify the M.M. degree in Music (MUSCMM), Music Education concentration, in the ways described in Section V of Attachment C.
    4. Proposal to modify the M.M. degree in Music (MUSCMM), all concentrations except Music History and Music Education, in the ways described in Section V of Attachment D.
  6. New Business:  Program Changes Proposals from the Graduate School
    1. (a).Proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Public Policy by changing one of the  specialization areas from “Policy Implementation Leadership” to “Public Policy Management” (Attachment E).
    2. (b).Proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Public Policy by creating a requirement that program applicants submit a GRE score and that the score cannot have been taken more than ten years before the application (Attachment F).
  7. New Business:  Proposal to add the Pearson Test of English as a possible test for admission to the Graduate School and to add a subtest as a possible test of spoken English for holding a graduate assistantship. Information about the test may be found at:   http://pearsonpte.com/PTEAcademic/Pages/home.aspx.  This examination could be used in lieu of the TOEFL or IELTS, our current acceptable measures of English language proficiency, for admissions, and instead of the IELTs (speaking) sub-test, TOEFL (speaking) sub-test or Spoken Language Proficiency Test for holding an assistantship.
  8. Course change report from the University Course and Programs Committee (UCPC) (Attachment G) (Note: Course change proposals can be viewed at http://https://waprd.uark.edu/web-apps/regr/ccf/Main.)
  9.  Graduate faculty recommendations for graduate faculty:   A preliminary list is attached (Attachment H).  A complete list will be distributed at the meeting.
