Graduate Council Agenda

    1. Minutes for the May 17, 2012, Graduate Council meeting will stand approved if no corrections are received.  (Please review the minutes on the Graduate School web page before the meeting:  http://www.uark.edu/grad).
    2. Welcome new members  (Attachment A and Attachment B)

    4. Reports from the Academic Appeals Subcommittee and the Teaching Assistant Effectiveness Advisory Committee
    5. New Business, Programs:
      1. College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, proposal to modify the M.Ed. degree in Curriculum and Instruction (CIEDME) as described in Section V of Attachment C.  
      2. College of Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering:
        (1).     Proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science (CSCEPH) by reducing the number of hours required for the degree from 78 to 72 hours beyond the bachelor’s degree or from 48 to 42 hours beyond the master’s degree (Attachment D).
        (2).     Proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering (CENGPH) by reducing the number of hours required for the degree from 78 to 72 hours beyond the bachelor’s degree or from 48 to 42 hours beyond the master’s degree (Attachment E).
    6. New Business, Policy:  Proposal to change the term for the Graduate Council representative from the interdisciplinary programs from one year to three.  This change has been unanimously endorsed by the cross-college interdisciplinary program directors.
    7. Discussion:  Should degree programs be allowed to dismiss students for academic dishonesty even if they are not subject to dismissal from the University?  Be sure to review the Academic Integrity Rubric at http://provost.uark.edu/
    8. Reminder of discussions scheduled for later in the semester:  Will we allow an X to be removed from an CF grade “upon graduation or completion of the period of suspension” for graduate students, as is currently stated in the Academic Integrity policy? 
    9. Course change report from the University Course and Programs Committee (UCPC) (Attachment F)
    10. Graduate faculty recommendations for graduate assistants: A preliminary list is attached (Attachment G).  A complete list will be distributed at the meeting.
