  5. New Business, Programs Changes, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences:
    1. Department of English, proposal to modify the M.A. degree in English (ENGLMA) in two ways: 1). Modify the language requirement so that each M.A. student must demonstrate a reading knowledge of language other than English that is relevant to his or her area of study (formerly the study of literature in English). This revision is intended to broaden the language requirement to include students who are not emphasizing literature--that is, to include students who are emphasizing Rhetoric and Composition; 2). Replace the GPA requirement with the following: after the second semester of study, and after each subsequent semester, each candidate must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.33 on the total number of graduate credit hours appearing on the transcript. If this requirement is not met, the student will be dismissed from the program. ( Attachment A )
    2. Department of English, proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in English (ENGLPH) in the ways described in Section V of Attachment B
    3. Department of Journalism, proposal to modify the M.A. degree (JOURMA) by creating a five-year combined JOUR BA/MA program ( Attachment C )
    4. Department of Political Science, proposal to change the name of the Master of Public Administration degree to Public Administration and Nonprofit Studies. The six digit code will remain the same (PADMMP) ( Attachment D and Attachment E )
    5. Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, proposal to modify the M.A. degree in Sociology (SOCIMA), criminology concentration, by moving Research in Criminology out of restricted electives and adding it to the list of required courses ( Attachment F ).

    1. Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Proposal to modify the M.A.T. degree in Childhood Education (CHEDMA) by adding a new STEM endorsement for P-4 candidates ( Attachment G and Attachment H ).
    2. Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Proposal to modify the Ed.S. degree (CIEDES) in the ways described in Section V of Attachment I .
  7. New Business, Program Changes, College of Engineering
    1. Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, proposal to modify the M.S. degree in Computer Engineering (CENGMS) in the ways described in Section V of Attachment J .
    2. Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, proposal to modify the M.S. degree in Computer Science (CSCEMS) in the ways described in Section V of Attachment K .
    3. College of Engineering, proposal to delete the General Engineering Concentration in the Ph.D. degree in Engineering (ENGRPH) ( Attachment L and Attachment M ).
  8. New Business, Program Changes, Interdisciplinary Programs:
    1. Program in Sustainability: Proposal to modify the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability (SUSTGC) by adding one course (COMM 5513) to the list of acceptable electives and deleting one course (AGEC 4413) from the list ( Attachment N and Attachment O ).
    2. Program in Micro-electronics Photonics: Proposal to modify the M.S. degree (MEPHMS) (professional path) to require three or more of the MEPH Operations Management seminars instead of all four and to require that a syllabus for any individual study or special topics course be submitted to the Microelectronics Photonics administration before the course can be used to meet degree requirements ( Attachment P )
    3. Program in Micro-electronics Photonics: Proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree (MEPHPH) by adding the requirement that a student entering the program with a M.S. from another program must complete MEPH 5911and MEPH 5383 prior to taking the written candidacy exam and to require that a syllabus for any individual study or special topics course be submitted to the Microelectronics Photonics administration before the course can be used to meet degree requirements.   9. New Business, Policy Clarification: How do we define “peers” in the application for graduate faculty status for graduate assistants?
  10. Discussion: For many years, the Graduate School has had a practice that if a student submits the dissertation by an early date in the semester of graduation (e.g. in Fall 2012, it was September 18th), then he/she need not register for that semester. We are proposing to eliminate this practice.
