The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Chair Patricia Koski
- Minutes for the December 16, 2010, Graduate Council meeting stand approved, as no changes were suggested. (The minutes of the Graduate Council may be found at http://grad.uark.edu/dean/gradcouncil/minutes/). (Note: The Graduate Council did not meet in January because of inclement weather.)
- Committee Reports: Professor Koski distributed a report from the Teaching Assistant Effectiveness Advisory Committee, prepared by Ms. Diane Cook (Attachment A). The Academic Appeals Committee heard one case in February and deferred a decision pending additional information. The Doctoral Residence Requirement Committee met, drafted a query to the listserv of the Council of Graduate Schools about requirements at benchmark institutions, and will soon meet again to make a recommendation.
- Professor Cronan presented for approval a proposal from the Graduate Student Academic Review Subcommittee with changes to the current policy (Attachment B). The motion was approved unanimously and the new policy will be in effect with the next catalog. It does not require additional approval.
- There was no Old Business.
- New Business:
- The Council unanimously approved proposals to delete the concentrations in Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation in the M.Ed. degree in Recreation and Sports Management (RESMME), presented by Professor S. Dittmore. The Council also approved changes to the Sports Management Curriculum and removed it as a separate concentration (Attachment C, Attachment D, Attachment E, Attachment F, Attachment G, Attachment H).
- The Council approved, with one abstention, changing the name of the M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from Health Science to Community Health Promotion (change HLSCMS to CHLPMS)(Attachment I, Attachment J, Attachment K, Attachment L), presented by Professor B. Hammig. This proposal will require the approval of the Faculty Senate, Board of Trustees, and Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE).
- The Council approved a proposal to delete the concentration in Adult Education from the M.Ed. degree in Workforce Development Education (WDEDME), and to create new M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees in Adult and Lifelong Learning (ADLLME and ADLLED) (Attachment M, Attachment N, Attachment O, Attachment P, Attachment Q, Attachment R, Attachment S, Attachment T, Attachment U), presented by Professors D.M. Deggs, K.S. Grover, and K. Kacirek. These proposals require the approval of the Faculty Senate, Board of Trustees and ADHE.
- The Council approved a proposal to modify all of the Master of Science degrees in Engineering (a master list of the changes is given in Section V of Attachment V) and to make changes to the Ph.D. degree in Engineering (Attachment W), presented by Professor T.W. Martin. These proposals will require the approval of the Faculty Senate.
- The Council approved a proposal to modify the Master of Civil Engineering degree (MSCE) as explained in Section V of Attachment X, presented by Professor K.D. Hall. This proposal will require the approval of the Faculty Senate.
- The Council approved a proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Engineering/Civil Engineering, presented by Professor K.D. Hall (Attachment Y). This proposal will require the approval of the Faculty Senate.
- The Council approved the following course change proposals:
- Courses changes approved by the University Course and Programs Committee in January (Attachment Z);
- Proposed course changes that will be reviewed by the UCPC in February. Approval of these courses will be pending the action of the UCPC (Attachment AA);
- Courses inactive more than three years to be deleted (Attachment BB);
- Courses inactive more than three years to remain inactive (Attachment CC);
- Courses with no enrollment in the last five years to be inactivated (Attachment DD);
- Courses with no enrollment in the last five years to remain active (Attachment EE).
- The Council approved the graduate faculty recommendations listed in Attachment FF.
There being no other business, the Council adjourned at 3:09 p.m.
