Professor Koski welcomed Anna Zajicek, who will be replacing Mindy Bradley for the fall 2012 semester while Professor Bradley is on OCDA.
-
Professor Shields presented an update to the Council on the GSIE efforts to increase graduate enrollment.
-
Reports for the Academic Appeals Committee and the Teaching Assistant Effectiveness Advisory Committee are attached (

-
New Business:
-
Professor D. Graham presented a proposal to modify the Master of Science degree in Agricultural and Extension Education (AEEDMS) by changing the admission requirements to include satisfactory undergraduate preparation in related fields of study and satisfactory GRE or MAT scores (
Attachment B
). Following discussion, the proposal was approved and will go next to the Faculty Senate.
-
Professor C. Hofer presented a proposal to modify the Ph.D. degree in Business Administration (Supply Chain Management Concentration), as described in Section V of
Attachment C.
This should actually have been listed as old business, as the Council reviewed the proposal in May 2012 and requested some course changes. Those changes have been made in a way that satisfies the Council’s concerns. Following discussion, the proposal was approved and will go next to Faculty Senate.
-
Professor S. Beaupre asked the Council to clarify the definition of “peer” in the Graduate Council policy that graduate faculty status may not be awarded to teaching assistants who might be teaching their peers. Following an extended discussion, Professor Koski asked the Council to poll their constituencies on this matter for further discussion at the November meeting.
-
Professor P. Bell and K. Barta presented a proposal to create a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (NURSDP) with two areas of specialization: adult/geriatric acute care nurse practitioner and adult/geriatric clinical nurse specialist (
Attachment D,
Attachment E,
Attachment F,
Attachment G,
Attachment H,
Attachment I,
Attachment J,
Attachment K,
Attachment L,
Attachment M,
Attachment N).
Following discussion, the proposal was approved and will go next to the Faculty Senate, followed by the Board of Trustees and the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.
-
The Council discussed whether we will allow an X to be removed from a CF grade “upon graduation or completion of the period of suspension” for graduate students as is currently stated in the Academic Integrity policy. The Council voted to recommend that this not be allowed; that is, the X cannot be removed from the CF grade for graduate students.
-
The Council discussed whether it would support the creation of a late registration fee, and agreed that this would serve many purposes.
-
The course change report contained in
Attachment O
was approved and will go next to the Faculty Senate.
-
The graduate faculty recommendations contained in
Attachment P
were approved.
-
Professor Shields updated the Council on the progress we have made in purchasing Turnitin.com for plagiarism checking. We will have this available but the license will allow us only to use it for graduate (not undergraduate) work.
There being no other business, the Council adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
