Health Promotion and Education is a social science that draws from public health and the physical, psychological, biological, environmental, and medical sciences to promote health and prevent disease, disability, and premature death. Theory-based voluntary behavior changes activities, programs, campaigns, education, and research contribute to the promotion of healthier lifestyles. The department staff consists of certified health education specialist (CHES). CHES are health professionals who design, conduct, and evaluate activities that help improve the health of all people. These activities can take place in a variety of settings that include schools, communities, health care facilities, college and government agencies. The CHES designation after a health educator's name is an indication of successful passing of examination of professional competency and commitment to continued professional development. All individual consultations are confidential. Group presentations are also available on a variety of health issues.
