Comparing Insurance Plans

Shopping for health insurance can be a daunting task. You are trying to buy something to protect yourself from something you can't predict!

Below are some tips on questions to ask an employer about their group insurance policy. Also find information about comparing multiple policies.

Questions to ask an employer about their group policies:

  • What is the deductible/co-payment amounts?

  • Is there a maximum out of pocket?

  • What is the monthly premium for family/single?

  • What percentage of the employees participate in the insurance plan?

  • Does the policy cover (preventative care, eye, dental, prescription, etc.) benefits?

  • With HMO and PPO, what area doctors and hospitals are included in the networks?
