Insurance While in the "Real World"

So you have graduated? Now parental insurance and student insurance are not options. For more American's (those not on Government assisted programs) the following two options exist for insurance coverage:

  • Insurance through an employer (group insurance)

  • Insurance through a third party provider

Insurance through your employer

Most employed people purchase insurance through their employer. The employer is sometimes able to offer insurance at a reduced rate because of the economies of scale they have offering it to so many employees. Most employers also pay a portion of the insurance premium each month on behalf of their employees.

Most employer insurance does not start immediately. Most companies have a trial period of anywhere from 30 days to 6 months before an employee is eligible for insurance. Short-term insurance may help during this transition time period.

Insurance through a third party

What if your company doesn't offer good insurance? What if you are self employed or work for a small business that doesn't offer insurance? Third Party Insurance is your best option.

Third Party Insurance is insurance directly from an insurance company. Directly contacting a website www.ehealthinsurance.com, a local insurance agency, or a company such as Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield may provide you with third party insurance options.
