Allergy and Immunization Clinics

The Pat Walker Health Center will administer allergy desensitization injections to students and spouses of students after they have been tested by an allergist and prescribed desensitization injections. The Pat Walker Health Center does not perform allergy testing nor prepare allergy extract. Please read the PWHC guidelines, listed below,  regarding allergy injections.

Required and common immunizations are also available. Immunization is an important practice for community and individual health. Also, immunizations are available for those who are traveling abroad through the Travel Clinic. Information regarding this is listed below. For information about pricing and fees, please click on Pricing and Fees.

An appointment is required to visit the Allergy and Immunization Clinic. Please call (479) 575-4451 to make an appointment.

Allergy Guidelines

  • Allergy injections will be given during regular clinic hours when a physician is present (8am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday).  During Summer hours, a physician is not available from 12 - 1 p.m..  Therefore, shots will not be given during that time.

  • Refrigerated storage space is available in the allergy clinic. Make sure name and I.D. number is on your extract.

  • Allergy injections cannot be given without written instructions from the allergist that prescribed the allergen. Check-in at the front desk and you will be directed to the allergy clinic. The nurse will review your protocol and set up a medical record for you.

  • A 20 minute observation period is required after each injection. No exceptions will be made. An additional observation period may be necessary if a reaction occurs.

  • Reactions: Local reactions (redness, swelling, soreness) will be treated by the allergy nurse or physician. Any serious reaction will be treated by a physician and orders must be received from the patient's allergist before further injections will be given.

  • Charges: One injection...$15.00   Two or more... $20.00*.  You may be interested in the Student Health Insurance policy.

*Listed fees are subject to change without notice. Last updated August 8, 2007.
