Reduce
the Risk of Rape
- Date
in public places when first getting to know someone.
- Make
your own arrangements for transportation to and from a date with a
person that you don’t know well.
- Trust
your instincts. If you
feel uncomfortable, then leave.
- Be
clear about your feelings. Be
assertive when communicating your thoughts and feelings.
- Know
your sexual limits and desires ahead of time.
- If
you choose to drink, know your limits.
Be aware of possible drugs that could be slipped into your
drink
- Don’t
leave your drink unattended. If
you do, discard it.
- Don’t
accept drinks from those that you don’t know well or from anyone
other than a bartender or server.
- Don’t
share drinks, exchange drinks with others, drink from a container
being passed around, or have anything from a punch bowl.
- Don’t
drink anything that has an unusual taste (salty or bitter) or
appearance (cloudy, foamy, unexplained residue, etc.).
- Go
to parties, clubs, and bars with friends and leave with that same
group.
- Be
aware of your surroundings, particularly when there are few people
around. Walk on lighted
pathways and park near buildings or under lights.
