Healthy Relationships

Healthy relationships are fun and make you feel good about yourself and when you are around the other person. Some characteristics of healthy relationships are:

  • Communication & Sharing: The most important part of any healthy relationship between two people is being able to talk and listen to one another.
  • Respect and Trust: In healthy relationships, you learn to respect and trust important people in your life. Disagreements may still happen, but you learn to stay calm and talk about how you feel. Talking calmly helps you to understand the real reason for not getting along, and it's much easier to figure out how to fix it.
  • Honesty and accountability - communicating openly and truthfully, admitting mistakes or being wrong, acknowledging past use of violence, and accepting responsibility for one's self.
  • Negotiation and fairness - being willing to compromise, accepting change, and seeking mutually satisfying solutions to conflict.

·        Non-threatening behavior - talking and acting in a way that promotes both partners' feelings of safety in the relationship. Both should feel comfortable and safe in expressing him/herself and in engaging in activities.
