Introduction
The University of Arkansas International Agricultural
Programs (IAP)
provide students
and faculty opportunities for research, study and service throughout
the
world.
Located within the Dale Bumpers College of
Agricultural, Food and
Life Sciences, IAP has four distinct program areas. Founded in
the
early 1980's, IAP:
Promotes
and assists
the economic development of Arkansas through global business
expansion,
Provides
study-abroad
and internship opportunities for students in the Bumpers College,
Maintains close liaison with Sponsored
Student Program, located within the University of Arkansas Graduate
School, for all sponsored students within the Bumpers College of
Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, and
Assists
faculty and
staff in international agricultural development projects.
The Global
Studies Program, Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences (GSP),
is in its fourth year of operation and offers overseas study and
research
opportunities for students and helps to create partnerships with
universities
primarily throughout Europe. With offices at the Scottish Agricultural
College in Edinburgh, Scotland, study programs are carefully designed
to
meet the individual interests of students.
Study-abroad
opportunities include:
Short-term
study visits
for two to four weeks,
Summer
internships or
A
full semester or year
of study. |
Students within Bumpers College have participated
in study-abroad
opportunities in Australia, Belgium, England, Denmark, Greece, Italy,
Israel,
Poland, Romania, Scotland, Spain and Slovakia.
The Global
Marketing Support Services
(GMSS) was established in 1993 to strengthen and promote
international
trade and marketing opportunities for Arkansas businesses. GMSS assists
small to medium size businesses to compete effectively in international
trade and investment. Education and training programs are individually
designed to help firms identify overseas markets for their specific
products
and develop their export readiness. Product lines have included
hard-wood
moldings, men's sportswear, hand-blown glass, medical supplies, car
wash
equipment and a variety of speciality food products.
The Sponsored
Student Program (SSP) provides a wide range of services to
international
students and scholars at the University of Arkansas who are funded by
foreign
governments, domestic and international agencies, private companies and
corporations.
SSP is affiliated with the UA Graduate School. In
addition to the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural,
Food and Life
Sciences, SSP also provides similar support to the other five colleges
and 120 academic programs at the University.
For International
Agricultural Development,
IAD provides support
for faculty with specific technology
transfer and education programs in international agriculture,
environment
and natural resources. Individual programs have helped improve the
agricultural
sectors, economies and local populations in Africa, Asia, Central and
South
America. The staff also has worked closely on projects through the U.S.
Agency for International Development, the World Bank and other
international
agencies.
