Katie Crawford in Paris

'This was an experience of a lifetime and completely unforgettable', says fashion marketing major Katie Crawford who attended summer classes at Florence University of the Arts, Italy.

Crawford, a senior in the apparel studies program, earned six hours of credit during her summer term in Florence. She completed courses in international marketing and fashion marketing. Crawford said the classes were informative, and the professors created a comfortable learning environment.

“The studies were challenging and fulfilling,” Crawford said. “I learned so much through the classes and the experiences outside of the academic realm, I enjoyed meeting new classmates and friends and experiencing a new culture.”

Crawford worked well in advance with her academic adviser to select courses that would fit her major and be equivalent to courses at the University of Arkansas. She also worked closely with the Global Studies Office and with the UA Study Abroad Office.

In addition to her studies, Crawford said she also had the opportunity to travel throughout Italy, visiting historic sites and taking a tour through the Vatican in Rome.

“Studying abroad is an unexplainable and indescribable experience,” Crawford said. “The fun and challenge of the experience adds so much to your personal life. I would highly recommend this program to other students'.

A graduate of Grove High School in Tulsa, Crawford received one of the Cordia Harrington “The Bun Lady” International Experience Endowed Scholarships to help finance her travel expenses.
