Study and intern in Brazil

Oct. 7, 2008

Bumpers College students have a unique opportunity to explore the agriculture, natural resources and culture of Brazil through a new student exchange program with universities in Brazil. The program provides a unique study abroad experience, according to Dr. Robert Bacon, Head of the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental sciences.

“This is a real hands-on exchange program for out students,” Bacon says. “In addition to the traditional study abroad courses, students also participate in applied learning activities, visiting agricultural enterprises.”

Bacon says students will learn about Brazil's recent development of alternative fuel sources and understand the differences between the agricultural production systems of the U.S. and Brazil. Bacon says the program presents an exciting opportunity for those agricultural students interested in a semester abroad study program in South America.

“Our students will experience the climate and the growing conditions in one of the major food producing countries of the world”, Bacon says. “This program is not for everyone, but students will fully experience the culture through travel and spending time with the Brazilian people.”

The agricultural exchange program with Brazil is a joint project with Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology, the Autry Technology Center in Enid, Okla., and with the State University of Londrina and Sao Paulo State University in southern Brazil. Students receive a stipend of up to $3,500 for the semester to help defray the costs of air fare, tuition, lodging and meals.
