Overview

The Arkansas Center for Electronic-photonic Materials Innovation (ACEMI) was created in 1997 with the financial support of the National Science Foundation, the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority (ASTA), and the University of Arkansas. ACEMI exists to support interdisciplinary research at the University of Arkansas in laser light and its interaction with solid state/quantum materials and devices.

The ACEMI faculty group was the driving force in the effort to define and implement the interdisciplinary Microelectronics-Photonics degree program at University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The curriculum model and educational methodologies used with the pioneering 1998-1999 cadre group of ACEMI microEP students formed the philosophical core of the microEP program.

This program ended in 2001, but left an educational legacy of the MS/PhD Microelectronics-Photonics Graduate Program.

This program is financially supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. EPS-9705038.
