My training at Northwestern University was with Dr. Benton J. Underwood in the area of human
learning and memory. Since coming to the University of Arkansas, my interests have expanded to include learning and memory in the elderly. Most of my
research in this area has been done in collaboration with Kenneth Witte,
and has been in the area called cognitive aging. Particularly, we have
been investigating explanations of the mediational deficit typically
shown in the elderly. We have attacked this problem using several
different tasks including paired associate learning, frequency judgments,
and recognition memory. Although gerontology has become a major focus for
my research, I maintain an interest in other aspects of learning and
memory. For example, my research in the area of frequency judgments has
been directed toward delineating the mechanisms or processes which are
responsible for, and put limits on, these judgments.
