Spring International Language Center (SILC) is happy to introduce our new Community ESL Program to help benefit members of our local community that would like to improve their ability to understand and communicate in English. This is a low-cost opportunity to learn English from experienced, professional teachers with Master's degrees.
Classes will be offered twice a week, 3 hours per week, for 9 weeks per level. Descriptions of what will be taught in each level are provided below.
Please contact Adriana Treadway (email@example.com) for cost and more class information. You may also call us at 479-575-7600.
Beginner LevelIntermediate LevelStudents will increase their ability to communicate effectively and with greater grammatical and situational accuracy. They will acquire the vocabulary required to communicate effectively and understand written material. They will also start to monitor their own speech for grammatical and phonetic accuracy. The focus will be on increasing the effectiveness of communication in speaking and writing and the ability to understand spoken and written English in real-life situations, e.g., speaking with a counselor, communicating with social services, understanding information on websites, reporting a problem to the police or the building manager, or opening a bank account.Advanced LevelStudents will build confidence in speaking by participating in group discussions and by monitoring their grammatical accuracy and pronunciation. Students will increase their knowledge and use of relevant vocabulary, expressions, and idioms in appropriate contexts and cultural situations and refine their understanding of spoken English and ability to respond effectively in conversation, in person or on the phone, at the workplace or in any other situation. Reading and writing instruction will be tailored to students’ needs and goals (e.g., writing a cover letter or a resume, or reading special-interest reports or information).
