OUR STUDENTS
Spring International students are mostly university-level students who come from many different countries around the world. More than half of our students are graduate students preparing for their Master's or Doctor's degrees. In this current term alone, more than thirty different countries are represented by our student population.
STUDENT LIFE
In addition to their regular intensive English courses, our students have the opportunity to participate in many extracurricular activities, from student government to wonderful recreational activities, all designed to help them improve their English as quickly and as enjoyably as possible!
SCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Spring International Student Council gives students a special opportunity for program participation. A member of the faculty acts as Student Council Advisor. In the first week of each term, students in each level elect one student council representative and one alternate to represent them during the term. The Student Council meets several times each term to discuss issues relating to the student body with program staff and administrators. Informally, they report on problems on behalf of students and help solve these problems. The Student Council members also plan parties and celebrations, and enlist the help of all SILC students to carry them out successfully.Photos of SILC Student Councils:
ACADEMIC HONORS
At the end of each term we have an Graduation and Awards Ceremony, which includes lunch or hors d'oeuvres. Students receive awards for perfect attendance, straight A's, and most improved on the Michigan Test. And most importantly, graduating students receive their certificates of graduation from the program. The awards ceremony also includes student speakers and often a special event.CONVERSATION PARTNERS
Students who want to improve their listening and speaking practice are invited to join this program. They meet for one hour a week after classes in a small group with one or two native speakers. After getting to know each other, the group members often go out for coffee or to the movies together.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
SILC students have so many enjoyable extracurricular activities to choose from that they are listed on a separate webpage. Click here to read about and see lots of photos of these activities!
