University of Arkansas SSS and TRIO History

Student Support Services (SSS) has a very long and rich history at University of Arkansas. The program’s success has made it invaluable to the University. UA SSS has established a reputation of quality and superior service to students. Founded on the UA campus in 1976, SSS has successfully served eligible participants for approximately thirty (30) years.

During 1998-2000, the SSS staff saw a need for a learning center due to the increasing number of ineligible students applying to the SSS program. Thus, the SSS staff collaborated and developed detailed plans to make the UA Enhanced Learning Center (ELC) a reality. After much consideration by the Chancellor and UA community, the ELC was approved for inception.

In August of 2003, SSS moved into the ELC and joined forces with the Enhanced Learning Center and Quality Writing Center staff. This eclectic staff opened its doors to service UA students on August 25, 2003.
