The University Symphony Orchestra, the premier orchestral ensemble at the University of Arkansas is an all-student ensemble numbering between 40-90 players that presents two concerts each semester and in alternate years accompanies the UA Opera in fully staged productions.

In keeping with our commitment to a comprehensive orchestral experience for our music majors, the University Symphony Orchestra regularly collaborates with the UA Schola Cantorum in performances of major choral/orchestral works.  The annual UA Concerto/Aria competitions is open to all UA music majors, and winning contestants are featured in the final USO concert of each year.

Recent repertoire of the USO has included symphonies, overtures, and concert works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, Bartok, Prokofiev, Finzi, Rachmaninoff, Mendelssohn, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Arvo Paart, Richard Strauss, and many others.

Our primary performance venue is Baum Walker Hall at the Walton Arts Center on historic Dickson Street.

Dr. Robert Mueller  is the conductor of the USO. Auditions for the USO are held at the beginning of each semester. Please contact Dr. Mueller for more information at (479) 575-5879 or e-mail: mueller@uark.edu.
