Our impact on the world

Thornless Blackberries

Horticulture researchers developed a thornless sweet-tasting blackberry in 1989 and called it Navaho. Today, five varieties of University of Arkansas blackberries are grown on every continent except Antarctica. Horticulture professor John R. Clark conducts the world's leading blackberry breeding program. The thornless varieties made possible a thriving shipping market for this antioxidant-rich fruit.
