Opportunities for the mind, body and soul
The university offers a vibrant campus life for its mainly full-time, residential undergraduate student population. More than a dozen university residence halls can accommodate in excess of 4,000 students, and the rest live in and around the city of Fayetteville.
There are 300 registered student organizations including special interest, religious, international and cultural organizations, as well as honorary and professional service groups. Students also may choose to participate in the university's Greek system, which is made up of 11 sororities and 15 fraternities.
In addition, more than 6,000 students, faculty and staff annually participate in the intramural sports program, which offers activities like bowling and table tennis tournaments, and sponsors clubs ranging from aikido to waterskiing. Many of these activities are conducted at the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) building, a $14 million, 225,000-square foot facility that contains 10 racquetball courts, four basketball gyms, an indoor track, an Olympic size pool, a climbing wall, a computer lab, a human performance lab and numerous classrooms.
Culturally and intellectually, the academic semesters bustle with faculty and student musical performances, theatre productions, art exhibits, concerts, poetry readings and visiting speakers - both on campus and at the adjacent Walton Arts Center. Recent university programming includes outdoor movies at the Greek Theater, comedians, karaoke nights and even a hypnotist.
The university's Distinguished Lecture Series has featured former heads of state, Pulitzer Prize-winning writers, political pundits and humorists, and other noteworthy national and international figures and scholars.
University Housing offers a variety of housing options within more than a dozen residence halls on campus, keeping students close all of these offerings. Find out more about residential life at the University of Arkansas.
