Partners of the Americas began in 1964
as an off-shoot of the Alliance for Progress and is now one of the most
influential forces building goodwill and private sector cooperation among
the people of the Americas. It is a voluntary organization dedicated to
promoting economic and social development throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The Arkansas-East Bolivia partnership began in 1965 and is one of the
most active and successful of all the partnerships. The diverse professional
and volunteer expertise of Arkansas and East Bolivia makes participation
in activities fun as well as fulfilling.
In the early years of Partners in Arkansas, the primary exchanges had
been from a group of Little Rock doctors, dentists, and other health professional,
with their Bolivian counterparts. Now the organization links Little Rock
and Fayetteville under a common program of interest with a united Board
of Directors and with others throughout the state. A similar arrangement
is in place in East Bolivia, with organized groups in Santa Cruz, Trinidad
in the Beni, and Cobija in Pando.
In the words of John F. Kennedy, considered to be the founding father
of Partners: "The wave of the future is not the conquest of the world by
a single dogmatic creed but the liberation of the diverse energies of free
nations and free men." |
