What?

A chance to talk about teaching and learning with campus colleagues, and acquire new classroom techniques and strategies.

Where?

Crescent Hotel, Eureka Springs, Arkansas (We're taking over the hotel--again!)

When?

Buses will depart the U of A Sunday afternoon, July 24, and return by noon Wednesday, July 27. We will travel together to and from Eureka Springs.

Who?

Open to all faculty members teaching at the U of A.


All travel, food, drinks, and accommodations (single rooms) are free to successful applicants.

A $400 teaching support grant will be awarded to each camper who participates for the entire camp!!

 

THE PROGRAM

Special Camp Teaching Consultant – Charles C. Bonwell

Charles C. Bonwell, directed Centers for Teaching and Learning at the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy (1993-1998) and Southeast Missouri State University (1990-1993). A former Professor of History, he received a B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in the history of science and technology. As an instructional consultant, he has facilitated over 200 workshops nationally and internationally for faculty and teaching assistants on active learning and critical thinking, and has given the keynote address at numerous regional, national, and international conferences. In 1986 Bonwell was one of 50 faculty honored nationwide by the American Association of Higher Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for his “outstanding educational leadership.” He is co-author, with James Eison, of the best-selling ASHE-ERIC monograph Active Learning: Creating Excitement in the Classroom (1991). In 1996, Jossey-Bass published Using Active Learning in College Classrooms: A Range of Options for Faculty in 1996, co-authored with Tracey Sutherland.


Workshop Sessions and Discussion Groups

U of A colleagues will lead sessions on practical and timely components of classroom teaching. Please note that there is plenty of time to visit idyllic downtown Eureka Springs.


HOW DO I APPLY?

Complete and submit the on-line camp application no later than Monday, March 7, 2005. (NOTE: Last year we had more applicants than we could accommodate.) If you would prefer a paper application, please contact Lori at 5-3222, or tfsc@uark.edu.


Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Monday, March 28, 2005.
