What courses will satisfy the University Elective requirements?
|
Just about any course that meets the U of A's transfer policies will work. (Note: the actual number of Electives required will vary as needed to ensure the total of General Education credits equals 55. For example, if exemption from the Advanced Composition requirement is gained, the Elective requirement will increase by three to compensate for the English course that was not taken. Conversely, if a 4-hour College Algebra course were taken, Elective requirements would decrease by one to maintain a total of 55credits.
Here are the criteria for transfer courses:
- From a regionally accredited institution of higher education
- Generally, graded at "C" or better
- Is NOT technical, vocational, or remedial in nature

What courses will satisfy
the various HRD Major Requirements?
What are the HRD
Technical Requirement choices?
HRD Technical hours can be earned in many ways. The following
four ways are merely the most common:
a. HRDV 3403 Employment Law is the only required Technical
course for all students in catalog years 2004 and later: it must be completed in order to graduate. Although listed here first, it is generally one of the last classes HRD students take in the 5-semester degree-completion plan. HRD students should be in-progress or complete with all General Education requirements and be in-progress or complete with all transfer coursework for Technical requirements prior to enrolling in this course.
b. The most common way to satisfy HRD Technical
requirements is to transfer in credit earned at
another institution of higher learning that 1) meets U of A's grade
minimums of "C" or better, 2) are related to
the student's occupation (or occupational goal), and 3) are appropriate for
HRD. See the list of courses that
commonly apply. HRD advisors can guide students to other
specific courses that apply.
c. The third way to earn technical/experiential credit
is through the National Occupational Testing Institute's (NOCTI's)
various written and performance assessments that measure
occupational knowledge. The HRD advisor determines which
NOCTI assessments count toward the degree. Students could be eligible
for HRD Technical credit if the NOCTI assessment both measures knowledge related to
an occupation (or occupational goal) in which the student had work
experience or training and does not duplicate credit counting towards degree requirements. The amount of credit earned depends
on the score. Students arrange to
take the NOCTI test from a certain testing center; however, they
do not pay tuition on any U of A credit granted from NOCTI results.
See the NOCTI web site for
descriptions of available "Student-Level" (Job-Ready)
assessments.
Student-Level written assessments can be taken at many testing
centers around Arkansas.
d. HRDV 450V, Experiential Learning,
is the fourth method commonly used to earn credit to satisfy HRD
Technical or Experiential Requirements. It is commonly referred
to as credit for certifications. Experiential Learning
credit is earned by documenting the knowledge acquired from professional
certifications, prior training, or work experience that both does not
now carry college credit and does not duplicate credit already counting toward degree requirements. Dr.
Kit Kacirek directs Experiential Learning. HRDV 3503 Workforce
Behavior (Web-based) is the prerequisite course for Experiential
Learning. Students should wait until all General Education requirements are complete or in progress before taking HRDV 3503. HRD students must wait until the summer semester
of the 5-semester HRD rotation to begin Experiential Learning.
Credit hours earned through Experiential
Learning are applied to the transcript in a certain semester by registering for HRDV 450V; tuition is charged for that amount of credit
that semester.
It is recommended that students 1) consult with their HRD academic
advisor, 2) read the Certification
Guidelines (Adobe Acrobat
Reader Required), and 3) review the steps with Dr. Kacirek before
completing a Certification
Credit Review Application.
