Practicum: Needs Assessment and Evaluation
in Human Resource Development
(HRDV 4643)
(Available Fall, Spring, and Summer I)

Prerequisite: HRDV 3123 Theory and Principles of Needs Assessment and Evaluation in HRD.

HRDV students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor before taking any Practicum or non-cohort class to ensure U of A Residency Requirements will be met.

The purpose of this Human Resource Development (HRDV) Practicum course is to apply, in an actual work setting, the theories, concepts and skills studied in HRDV 3123: Theory and Principles of Needs Assessment and Evaluation in Human Resource Development. Students will conduct a needs assessment, including: creating and implementing data-gathering instruments, performing a needs analysis, suggesting training, and determining appropriate assessment evaluation methods for a selected workplace.  HRDV 3123 and this Practicum cannot be taken in the same semester.

Assignments

  1. Submit a proposal worksheet that includes specific plans for a needs assessment. Due: February 6th.
  2. Data Collection Materials-Due March 5th
  3. Portfolio-Due May 1st, should include the following portfolio details
    1. Raw data collected
    2. Assessment Findings
    3. Proposal
    4. Personal Learnings
More specific details about the above steps will be provided as the Practicum progresses.

All work should reflect your understanding of the material presented in HRDV 3123 and in the Gupta text. Each of your submissions will be graded on: content, mechanics & usage, and timeliness.

Grading Scale

Grades will be determined as follows:

100 - 90 = A
89 - 80 = B
79 - 70 = C
69 - 60 = D
Below 60 = F

Academic Honesty

This needs assessment is to be completed by you and for this Practicum. Do not turn in an existing company needs assessment or work that you've completed for another class or Practicum. You may adapt existing surveys or materials to fit your assessment needs, but cite your sources. Plagiarism is a serious offense and will result in a grade of "F".
