Practicum: Applied Theory and Principles of Adult Education (HRDV 4613)
(Available in Summer Sessions I and II Only)

Prerequisite: HRDV 4113 Theory and Principles of Adult Education

HRD students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor before taking any Practicum or non-weekend class to ensure U of A Residency Requirements will be met.

The purpose of this course is to apply concepts, principles and theories studied in the prerequisite HRDV 4113 Theory and Principles of Adult Education.  HRDV 4113 and this Practicum cannot be taken in the same semester. 

Summer 2005

SUMMER SESSION I: May 23 to July 1, 2005

SUMMER SESSION II; July 5 to August 12, 2005

You must have had HRDV 4113 “Theory and Principles of Adult Education” in order to enroll in this Practicum.

This will be a 100% web class—all class activities and assignment will be completed and submitted on the computer.

ASSIGNMENT 1 : Topic: Getting to know important Adult Educators (50 points)

Research one “famous” adult educator. You will be assigned one important adult educator. Write a 2 to 3 page letter of recommendation for that person nominating them for “Adult Educator of All Time—you will vote to select the top adult educator


ASSIGNMENT 2: Interview of an ADULT Educator; --someone who teaches adults (20 points)


ASSIGNMENT 3: Locate and Interview an Adult Student: **Select adult learners/students who are in a formal or informal training or education class. (20 points)


ASSIGNMENT 4 : Topic: Issues of Adult Education (25 points)

Using the journal “New directions for adult and continuing education”, you will identify current issues in Adult education and explain the relevance of it in your work environment.


ASSIGNMENT 5: Learning Theories (20 points)

You will complete a leaning style questionnaire and determine how it influences you as an adult learner.
