Assignments
-
Presentation Evaluations (15 pts. each): Evaluate three presentations based on the SPAMOPS criterion. Suggested presentations include a meeting at your workplace, a civic/community meeting or program, a session at a conference, a training or informational video, etc. Required evaluation for each presentation includes a completed SPAMOPS Presentation Evaluation Form, a one-page description of the presentation (who, what, when, where, why, etc.), and a one to two page description of the strengths and weaknesses of the presentation.
- Organizational Culture Assessment
(30 pts.): Prepare a minimum five-page assessment of the organizational culture of your workplace. Assessment should be developed from information provided in the assigned reading, Organizational Culture Information and at least two other sources of your choosing. The two additional sources can be references from textbooks, journal articles, online sources, company documents, personal interviews with company officials, etc.
Your assessment should include the following:
- Description and classification of your organization (baseball, club, academy, fortress, or some combination)
- Discussion of the seven components of organizational culture as they apply to your organization
- Discussion of subculture-how the culture within your own department/office/etc. does or does not match the culture of the overall organization
Notice that the first two items apply to the organization as a whole, while the third item is in reference to the particular area in which you are employed. Be sure to provide lots of supporting examples of "what goes on" where you work.
- Learning Strength Inventory Assessment:
(25 pts.): Submit a one to two page assessment of the completed Strength Deployment Inventory® (completed by you) and Feedback Edition® (completed by your employer) instruments. Both items are available through the U of A Bookstore. Complete and score/chart the SDI first, then ask your supervisor to complete the Feedback Edition and return it to you. Your written assessment should include a contrast/comparison of scores, and an evaluation of communication issues evident in light of these scores.
