Practicum: Introduction to Human Resource Development I
(HRDV 4603)
(Spring, and Summer I only)

Prerequisite: HRDV 3213 Introduction to Human Resource Development

HRD students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor before taking any Practicum or non-weekend class to ensure U of A Residency Requirements will be met.

The purpose of this practicum is to apply the theories and best practice presented and examined in HRDV 3213 Introduction to Human Resource Development to identified needs in your own organization's work setting. HRDV 3213 and this Practicum cannot be taken in the same semester.

This course is designed as a journey beginning with the discovery and identification of organization needs ending in a thoroughly researched and documented presentation of a human resource development intervention. Students will require access to organizational leaders, stakeholders, employees, and records, and will be expected to develop activities and a final product in alignment with the organization's strategic intent.

The student will define the number of steps in the Practicum journey, with a minimum of six steps, each of which has its own activities, timelines, assignments, and deliverables. Activities and assignments will be posted on the Blackboard web site. Over the course of the Practicum, the student will be expected to demonstrate progress by maintaining activity logs and a portfolio of materials associated with assignments available for review by organization stakeholders and assigned faculty.
