Practicum:
Professional Development
in Human Resource Development
(Available
Spring and Summer VII)
Prerequisite: HRDV 4213 Strategies in Professional Development
HRD students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor before taking any Practicum or non-weekend class to ensure U of A Residency Requirements will be met.
The purpose of this Practicum is to apply the theories, concepts and skills studied in HRDV 4213 Professional Development in HRD. HRDV
4213 and this Practicum cannot be taken in the same semester.

Conflict Mode/Team Dysfunction Assessment (100 pts.): Obtain and complete the Thomas-Kilman Conflict Mode Instrument available at:
http://www.cpp-db.com/detail/detailprod.asp?pc=62
Considering these results along with the five-level team dysfunction concept*, prepare a minimum 3 page assessment of how your conflict tendencies may positively and/or negatively impact proper team functioning in your organization.
*presented in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team book used in the Professional Development course

Personal Development Action Plan (100 pts.): Professional development theory includes both professional and personal growth. Consider a professional or personal area of your life you have always wanted to develop—maybe a skill you've wanted to acquire, a topic you've wanted to explore, a habit you've wanted to form. Create a detailed action plan describing:
what you want to achieve
resources you will need
permission and/or support required
active steps to be taken toward goal achievement
timeline for the entire process
Ethical Exploration Exercise (100 pts.): Select one of the following two topics for which you will submit a minimum five-page summary. Use at least four references from books, journal articles, web sites, personal interviews, etc. to document your findings.
Option 1: Explore an ethical issue with particular relevance to your line of work.
Option 2: Explore the relatively new phenomenon of the Ethics Officer.
Grading
A = 270 –300
B = 240 – 269
C = 210 – 239
D = 180 – 209
F = 0 – 208
All assignments will be graded on depth of content, freedom from error and timely submission.
