This Human Resource Development (HRD) Technical course examines the psychological impact of work on the individual through a study of organizational culture, job satisfaction, motivation, communication, behavioral styles, and career development. In addition, students will assess individual personality traits, learning styles, work skills, and develop both professional and personal life goals.  The emphasis in this course is to develop the learner's understanding of the theories, models, and practices associated with experiential learning. Detail will be given to understanding the dynamics of work as it relates to human psychology.

This course is a prerequisite to take HRDV 450V Experiential Learning for HRD students starting in Catalog Year 2004.  Students from prior catalog years may count this toward either Technical or Practicum requirements. 

Competencies

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Define the nature of work and its psychological components through an overview of organizational culture, structure, and employee behaviors.

  2. Systematically identify personal, professional, and educational goals and devise a plan for attaining short-term goals.

  3. Determine their personal learning styles.

  4. Determine individual personality style and career interests and analyze their characteristics in relation to their present or desired careers.

  5. Identify specific competencies they have acquired in their careers.
