Mission Statement

The mission of the AFLS Honors Program is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in academic, research, and creative activities beyond the traditional undergraduate experience.

Purpose of the AFLS Honors Program

The AFLS Honors Program is designed for undergraduate students who want to experience firsthand the satisfaction and challenge of completing independent, creative projects or research aimed at discovering new knowledge in close association with faculty mentors.

Benefits of the AFLS Honors Program

  • Opportunity to work directly with faculty mentors on their research/creative projects culminating in their honors thesis
  • Specialized honors courses 
  • Opportunity to receive stipends to support thesis projects and study abroad opportunities
  • Opportunities to publish results and present findings at scientific or professional meetings
  • Advanced course pre-enrollment
  • Opportunity for special housing in the Honors Quarters
  • Special recognition at the College commencement ceremony
