Security
Due to new mandates by the AR State Legislature, all information, reports, PDFs, and data files, transferred electronically by a State Agency or University must be done so in a secure, encrypted format. Information Services has elected to accomplish this by zipping and password protecting data and PDF files sent to end users.
We plan to accomplish this in a two-phase process.
1st Phase: All data and PDF files sent to end users by IS staff will be encrypted and password protected. This has already begun. One change, however, will be a single PASSWORD for ALL users. In the past, we used your ASCEND ID, this will change going forward 12/18/2006. To retrieve the new PASSWORD, you will need to map a drive and access the PW.DOC in the "ifs" directory. Instructions are below.
2nd Phase: All data and PDF files transferred from the AS/400 ASCEND application will be zipped and password protected. This will include all daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly PDF and data files. The 2nd Phase is slated to start February 1st. The PASSWORD will be the same as used in the 1st Phase.
To retrieve the password for your zipped encrypted PDF or data files:
- The 1st time, map a network drive to file://arkfound.uark.edu/ifs. To map a drive, open "My Computer" from your desktop, select "Tools", and select "Map Network Drive".
- Use your ASCEND ID and password, not your email/GACL ID and password to map the drive.
- Open the PW.DOC in your newly mapped directory. The password will be on the 1st line with a format of:
12-18-2006 to 06-31-2007 Password: ########### - The password will change every six months, you only have to return to the PW.DOC for the new password. So please save your mapped drive.
