The office of university relations is the strategic communications and marketing unit of the university, responsible for articulating and presenting the university's mission and goals in a consistent manner. Functionally, it promotes the university as a leading national scientific and intellectual resource due in large part to faculty research, expertise and creative and scholarly contributions. The office provides news, information and publications for faculty and staff, friends, benefactors, alumni, prospective students and parents. It also informs the general public by assisting with university-wide publicity and responses to the media, and provides consultation and assistance for communications and marketing efforts and special events across the campus. The office also compiles and publishes the university's academic catalogs and other broad publications, and coordinates the use of the university logo and other graphic standards for print and web.
The six primary goals of the office of university relations are:
- Position the University of Arkansas as a nationally competitive, student-centered research university serving Arkansas and the world. Special emphasis is placed on promoting university research achievements and faculty expertise, in support of the university's goal of reaching $100 million in external research support by 2010.
- Enhance the position of the University of Arkansas as the state's flagship university and the pre-eminent institution of higher learning, and build public support for its unique mission as Arkansas' land-grant university and as an economic engine and cultural resource for the entire state.
- Foster increased understanding, appreciation, pride and morale among internal and external constituencies in regard to the university's role as a scientific, technological, intellectual and creative resource for the state, and to its growing stature nationally and internationally.
- Bolster the university's efforts to raise more private gift support through the provision of varied communications for development efforts.
- Support the university's efforts to recruit substantially greater numbers of quality undergraduate and graduate students.
- Sustain the university's efforts to enhance cultural diversity on the part of students, faculty, staff and administration.
