Disaster Recovery Plan
Mainframe Channel and Power Cable Layout
(DRPMS106)
Last update: Tuesday, 21-Mar-2000 10:35:05 CST
The following diagrams shows the layout of channel and power cables
for the mainframe equipment in the
BELL 108 recovery site. Rather than just indiscrimately running
cables across the floor connecting devices, paths for cables should
be planned to avoid problems. Important aspects to the layout are:
- Use cables of the correct length to avoid having to take short
cuts or to coil extra cable.
- Route the cables such that equipment moves can be done later without
having to disconnect cables from other devices.
- Avoid placing cables across heavy traffic areas. Not only does
having to step over cables pose a safety problem, stepping on cables
may cause data or power problems later.
This plan includes a suggested layout for the cables. Last minute
changes can be made to the layout, but do so carefully. The paths
that cables should take are shown in red in the diagrams.
